Xi Jinping Warns of Taiwan’s ‘Red Line’

Dharamshala, 16th November: After nearly three hours of virtual conversations, US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping discussed China’s actions in Tibet, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang, among other areas of contention, the White House stated in a statement.

According to the White House, President Biden expressed concern about the People’s Republic of China’s practices in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong, as well as human rights in general, he also told Xi that the US remains committed to the ‘One China’ policy in regard to Taiwan, and the two agreed to collaborate on energy and climate issues.

According to Chinese official media, Xi told Biden that if “pro-Taiwan independence” groups passed a “red line,” his country would have to take “decisive measures.” Taiwan is claimed by China as its own. Beijing has pledged to take control of the island, if necessary by force.

The two leaders emphasized their obligation to the rest of the world to avert conflict. The meeting was praised as “frank, productive, substantive, and fruitful” by the official Xinhua news agency.

According to a report, Indian officials estimate China is “constructing more than 600 such villages” along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), a border between the two nations agreed upon after a “short but devastating border war” in 1962, as described by Newsweek.

One villager in the newly created village was described in the Tibet Daily as claiming that he received 30,000 Yuan (£3,500) a year to reside in the border zone, according to the Vivekananda International Foundation, a think-tank based in New Delhi.
