US State Passed Tibet Resolution Despite China’s Threat Against Economic Ties!

US State passed Tibet resolution on Friday during the commemoration of Tibetan National Uprising day despite China’s threat against their friendly ties both in terms of economic and cultural exchanges. The resolution honours the self determination of the Tibetans and declares the March 10 as the Tibet Day in honour of the 58th Tibetan Uprising day.

“The resolution honors the memory of about 1.2 million Tibetans who have been “killed by the Chinese government,” the 145 who have died by self-immolation in protest, and laments the destruction of the world’s largest Tibetan Buddhist academy, Larung Gar. The document “urges the government of China to respect Tibetan people’s right to self-determination, safeguard their human rights and their pristine environment, and to immediately resume dialogues with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Central Tibetan Administration.” according to the report by StarTribune.

The initiative was not at all well received by the Chinese government. The Chinese consul general in Chicago has issued deep concerns about the Minneapolis City Council prior to the resolution to floor test in the Council.

“We firmly oppose the above-mentioned resolution, which completely ignored the basic facts that Tibet has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times and the so-called Tibetan uprising back in 1959 was a full-scale insurrection plotted by a handful of serf owners with the aim to split Tibet from China,” wrote Hong Lei, the consul general according to the report.

The letter had also highlighted the US state’s relationship with China both in terms of Economic and cultural ties. Hong Lei has warned against the City Council that executing resolution could spoil that friendly relationship with China!
