US Embassy Denies Visa To Tibet Women’s Soccer Team After A Year Of Preparation

The Tibet Women’s Soccer team has been denied visa by the United States Embassy in New Delhi. The women’s soccer team, which was going to represent Tibet at the Dallas Cup as the first Tibet team on US soil, was rejected by the US Embassy without any explanation.

The organizer of the Tibet Women’s Soccer, Cassie Childers, wrote that about $5,000 (Rs 330,000) had been spent for the visa application process.

Childers said that the US Embassy asked the individuals in the team about what position they played in and then ‘flatly” rejected their visa by saying that they ‘have no good reason’ to visit the United States.

“Almost one year ago, I received a phone call out of the blue from a footballing legend named Gordon Jago. Gordon was the closest thing to a fairy godfather a girl like me could ever have. In one phone call, he offered to bring an entire team of Tibetan women to the Dallas Cup, the most important BOYS soccer tournament in the world, every penny sponsored. Ten days in Dallas, treated like the queens that they are, crowned with the opportunity to lead the opening day parade into the Cotton Bowl stadium under the Tibetan flag, and the honor being the first sports team of any sex to represent Tibet on US soil,” Childers wrote on the fundraising platform.

Evidently bemused at the embassy’s reaction, Childers stated: “If a revolutionary women’s soccer team, the first of their kind for Tibetans, can’t get a tourist visa to attend a very prestigious soccer tournament as VIP, legit guests, then WHO, may I ask, DOES DESERVE A VISA?”

With travel restrictions becoming more constricting in the United States, a more careful scrutiny of immigrants is being observed. After Trump’s travel ban policy, the US State Department’s extra-screening process has spelled major problems for people travelling to the US.

It may also be believed in this regard that China might have played a hand in provoking the rejection of the Tibetan Women’s Soccer team. Though no reports of direct intervention have emerged, it is undoubtedly wary of Tibetan women participating in the prestigious cup.

Hmmm, #45 fired all the ambassadors on the day he was inaugurated breaking the traditions of many years of having a time of transition before new ambassadors were appointed.

May i merely state what a comfort to discover someone that honestly is aware of what they’re talking about on line. You definitely know how to bring a major problem to light and allow it to be important. Lots more people will need to look at this and understand this side of your message. I can’t believe you just aren’t very popular as you absolutely hold the gift.

This action against the Tibetan team angers and saddens me for the team and their coach. There is no reason to deny entrance to the US except the evil thirst of power that the potus exercises.
Please accept my apology on behalf of the good people of US who has nothing to do with the potus. It would have been an honor for the American soccer fans, as myself to witness the Tibetan team play here. My heart aches for our loss.
Sending Blessings, Courage, Honor and Pride to this amazing coach who spoke on behalf of her team with such dignity.
    Sincerely, a fan from Texas.

This has nothing to do with “visa restrictions” of the current administration. It has EVERYTHING to do with China and the pressure they exert on US relations. Sad either way.

That is just terrible. Deepest apologies to the Tibetan Women’s soccer team on behalf of sane Americans. It seems our country has lost its mind.

Message to the Tibetan women’s soccer team: I am so sorry things are not working out for you to participate. On so many levels this is just plain wrong. Please know that this is the work of the new US president’s actions and not reflective of the majority of the people of this country. Peace.

Your vitriol is naive and not patriotic. You have reacted to a posting written to generate the kind of response you made. There was no explanation given for the denial and you have innocently but presumptuously assumed the worst possibility. Find out the truth.

So embarrassed by this action. Our President ignored China by speaking to Taiwan’s leader where trade may be involved i.e. Profits involved. This team only has good willl, demonstrations of hard work and tenacity as well as showing comradery and love of a sport. We let China and politics win out over Sportsmanship and the joy of playing in a country who recognizes all that is needed to play is hard work and dedication. Shame on those who made this decision.

Tibet is a hotbed of terrorist. Particularly the soccer players. Especially the girl soccer players. They could be smuggling soccer balls filled with poison gas. They could be … wait … let me take my meds and get back to you.

This US administration does not truly represent most of us. #45 lost to HRC by nearly 3m votes. 72.5m votes were cast against him. He is loathed by most and has somewhere around a 72% disapproval rating. I truly hope this team finds a way to reach this tournament.

It occurs to me that the US govt does not like the “Beautiful Game”.
Perhaps the US football team be banned from entering any country and see the uproar that causes.
