US Congressional Delegation Meets Dalai Lama in India

A US Congressional delegation who were on a three day visit to the headquarters of Central Tibetan Administration, Dharmsala met with the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama after their tour of all Tibetan institutions in the town on Friday. The delegation had visited the remote town to reaffirm their solidarity to the Tibetan cause.

A United States Congressional delegation comprising of congresswomen Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Claudia Tenney paid a visit to the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama at his temporal residence in the Himalayan town of Dharamsala on last India on Friday.

The Congressional delegation was welcomed by the Central Tibetan Administration with a welcome reception at the newly built Tibet building on Wednesday where the Tibetan president Dr. Lobsang Sangay expressed his gratitude to the United States government and the Congress for their continued bipartisan support to the Tibet issue.

While the delegation expressed their pleasure over receiving the gracious opportunity have an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, both of the Congresswomen assured of continued support for Tibet in the US Congress. The delegation also promised to propose a bill in the congress to pressurise China to resume dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama for a resolution of the Tibet issue and the release of all political and religious prisoners.

During the three day visit to Dharamsala, the delegation visited the Tibetan Parliament in Exile as well as Tibetan NGOs and organisations such as TCV, Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Tibetan Astro and Medical Institute, Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, etc.

The delegation also informed that the fact that United States conferring the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest state honour upon His Holiness the Dalai Lama on October 17, 2007 is a symbol of United State’s expression of solidarity and support for the Tibetan people in their struggle.
