Tibet’s Potala Palace Opens for Visitors After 4 Months

The Potala palace in the capital city of Lhasa will open for visitors after four months of lock down. According to the local updates, Potala palace will open for visitors from Wednesday with severe restrictions after remaining shut for more than four months. The major tourist attraction in Lhasa has been the winter palace of His Holiness the Dalai Lama till is escape to India.

Since January 27 this year, the Potala palace was shut down for visitors in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak. Following the spread of the virus outside China, every other country had to shut their hot spot destinations such as the Disney World. China declared victory over the pandemic and began opening up since last month.

According to the updates, visitors to the palace require to obtain an online registration prior to their physical visit. The palace administration declared that the number of visitors will be severely reduced to maintain social distancing.

The Potala Palace  in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, China occupied Tibet was the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India during the 1959 Tibetan uprising. It is now a museum and World Heritage Site attracting millions of visitors from across the world every year.
