On April 16, the Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA), headquartered in Dharamshala and with branches across the free democratic world, elected a new central executive body. The election took place during the TWA’s 13th General Body Meeting, which lasted three days and was held in Dharamshala.
Ms. Tenzin Dolma of the Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement is the new President. Tsering Dolma, Vice-President, and Kalsang Dolma, General Secretary, are the other members of the Central Executive Committee, which also includes Dolma Tsering, Tamdin Dolma, Lhamo Choezom, and Namgyal Dolkar. The TWA’s 13th Central Executive Committee will be in place for three years, until 2024.
A nine-point resolution passed by the General Body Meeting must be implemented by the new executive committee. These include supporting the current Dalai Lama’s legacy and continuing the campaign for the liberation of the 11th Panchen Lama, who has been missing since the Chinese government abducted him when he was six years old in 1995.
TWA will also work to preserve Tibetan language and culture, as well as the climate in Tibet, and to encourage Tibetan women to have more children. The resolution expressed broad support for the exile administration’s Middle Way Approach to resolving the Tibet problem as well as the anti-Beijing Winter Olympics movement in 2022.
