There is a growing protest against China’s infamous Transformation or Re-education camps across the world. But there are more revelation about Tibetan women including Buddhist nuns subjected to brutal sexual abuse in those camps. The ordeals of the victims are very saddening and people are very much shocked about such serious systematic abuse of human rights of the Tibetans.
According to the report be a magazine on religious liberty and human rights, Bitter Winter, as the world is shocked about the revelations in a BBC report by Muslim women about gang rapes at China’s so called Transformation through education camps, similar fate is being faced by the Tibetan Buddhist women and nun at the so called Reeducation camps in Tibet.
The report explains that “transformation through education,” exist also in Tibet. Some of Bitter Winter Tibetan correspondents reacted to the BBC revelations telling us that the stories of the Uyghur and ethnic Kazakh women rang a familiar bell. The same happens in Tibetan camps. Bitter Winter was told that cattle prods are used there to control and torture inmates, and it is common that they are used to rape women by inserting them in their private parts. One of our informants commented that this routinely happens to nuns, who are told that their bodies “belong to the CCP” rather than to the monasteries.
Apart from cruelty and clear discriminative violation of Tibetan human rights, there is a political reason for this. Once raped, a nun will difficultly be taken back by her monastery, and should settle for a secular life, the report explained. China despite being governed by an atheist communist authority wants to dictate administrative authority over the spiritual matters of Tibetan Buddhists.
Ordeals from Tibetan victims in the report explain the level of brutality being met upon the Tibetans. Apart from undergoing physical torture similar to their Tibetan male inmates, women face brutal sexual abuses. Here, according to the accounts of victims, besides being raped or gang raped, their body gets treated like some models where they breasts, private parts, even mouth, head are subject to being tied by electric cords, beaten with sticks, kicked by hard boots, near to death!
China claims Tibet as a part of their country and reported after their forced annexation of complete political authority in 1959; liberated it. However, there has been never ending protest against their claim over the past 60 years both inside as well as outside Tibet. According to the Tibetan government in Exile based in India, the situation of human rights of Tibetans inside are getting worse.
