After the distance attitude shown by the Central government of India over the mega rally, ‘Thank You India’ initially scheduled to be held in New Delhi, the event had been called off from the capital to be held in Dharamsala. According to the on going preparations, the Tibetan mega rally is likely to be held at the HPCA’s iconic Cricket Stadium, Dharamsala.
‘Thank You India’ event that is scheduled to take place on March 31 now looking for a venue after shifting from original venue of Thyagaraj Sport Complex in New Delhi and it is now clear that the Tibetan leadership is planning to hold it at the iconic Cricket Stadium, Dharamshala. Besides the stadium, there is no better option to hold such a mega rally in the hill town where the exile Tibetan headquarters are based.
According to Times of India report, BJP MP Anurag Thakur, who heads the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, responsible for the administration of the Dharamsala stadium, has been approached by the representatives from Tibetan Administration for the venue. However, the BJP MP has informed that it should be the decision of the board and not a decision he alone could take.
“It is up to the board of directors to give an approval for the venue. Such decisions are not taken by me,” said the BJP MP and former president of BCCI.
India advised their senior officials to skip the major Dalai Lama and Tibetan related events over the next few months owing to sensitive time of relationship between India and China. Despite India reassuring that it did not mean a change in India’s stand on the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan administration, “Thank You India” event has been shifted to Dharamsala while another Dalai Lama event was cancelled.
