The traditional Tibetan medicine is effective in treating COVID-19 patients according to the director of Men Tsee Khang, the Tibetan Medical Institute in Dharamshala. While the world is suffering from the wrath of highly infectious Coronavirus that originated from China, Tibetan exile institute is very hopeful that their traditional medicine is effective.
Director of Men Tsee Khang Mr. Tashi Tsering in the recent report by Times of India has stated that according to their findings, tradition Tibetan medicine is not only helpful in prevention but also in treating people suffering from COVID-19. The director has also stated that the apex administrative authority of Tibetan medicine has sought permission to use their medicine for treating COVID-19 patients.
Men Tsee Khang director in the report has claimed that “We have medicine, we have doctors, we have patients, all we need is the permission,” adding that they have received encouraging results of Tibetan medicines on Covid-19 patients by using traditionally used Tibetan medicinal herbs.
“The herbs which our doctors identify and dispense were being used for decades to treat similar cases. In the recent past China announced good results with Tibetan herbs. Some Tibetan health care-givers in New York were tested positive testified that Tibetan herbs played an effective role in putting their health back to normalcy,” adding that by October end, their research and development department would bring out a report with patient testimonials for their 8 months’ services, said the report.
Mr. Tsering also told that they have written a letter seeking permission to use Sowa Rigpa (or traditional Tibetan medicine) on COVID-19 patients to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan. The proposed medicines are not any herbal formulae to treat the new viral infection rather traditionally used prescriptions earlier found effective during the SARS outbreak.
With no proven cure or an approved vaccine against the Chinese origin infection, the success of Tibetan medicine could be a huge milestone. India is set to lead the world as the worst affected country according to the current trend in the surge of cases where almost a hundred thousand cases of infections are being reported daily.
