A Tibetan man is reported to have test COVID-19 positive from Bylakuppe settlement in South India. According to the Tibetan report, a man under quarantine at the settlement has tested positive to pandemic virus after many days of arrival. This is the first case of Coronavirus infection among Tibetans in the region.
The positive from Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement in Karnataka has arrived from New Delhi. After many days in quarantine, he started showing symptoms and on testing, he is found to be positive to COVID-19 on Saturday. While he has been take to the district hospital in Mysore, the site of his quarantine facility has been sealed by police.
Three family members of the person has also been kept into self isolation at the Organic Research and Training Center of the settlement. Yesterday, a 19 year old Tibetan girl tested COVID-19 positive and this has brought the total identified cases of infection among Tibetans in the country to 26 and two of them have succumbed to the infection.
There has been a continued rise in the cases of coronavirus infection in India, till now more than 410K cases of infection have been identified and more than 13K have lost their lives. As for whole world, there are more than 8.8 million confirmed cases with more than 465K deaths.
As per the latest update, there are 213 cases of Coronavirus infections among Tibetan refugees abroad, i.e., those refugees in countries apart from India, Nepal and Bhutan. This is as per the information sent by the Offices of Tibet from various countries. According to the information, there are 8 deaths while 165 of them have recovered. This leaves a total of 40 active cases in Tibetans abroad.
