The Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), is beaming with pride as it celebrates the remarkable achievements of one of its scholarship recipients, Tsewang Tsamchoe, who recently received three prestigious gold medals in recognition of her outstanding performance in MSc Genetics at the University of Mysore. The award ceremony took place during the 103rd annual convocation of the University of Mysore on October 18, 2023.
Tsewang Tsamchoe, hailing from Dhondhenling Tibetan Settlement in Kollegal, has exemplified the spirit of determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to education. As a Tibetan refugee, she acknowledges the incredible educational opportunities available to her and encourages fellow Tibetans to seize these opportunities with passion and resolve.
In her own words, Tsewang shared, “We must seize these opportunities with determination. It’s crucial to maintain a burning passion for learning, unwavering self-confidence, and the resolve to never give up. Even when confronted with daunting concepts or uncertainties, I hold fast to the belief that there’s no such thing as a foolish question. This commitment allows us to keep our dreams alive and work towards a brighter future.”
Tsewang’s educational journey began at Sambhota Tibetan School Kollegal, where she completed her primary and secondary education. She continued her studies at the Central School for Tibetans Mundgod, securing the first position in her 2016 batch. Subsequently, she pursued her BSc. BEd from 2016 to 2020 at the Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, under the reserved seat allocated by the Department of Education and provided by the Government of India. Later, she embarked on her MSc. Genetics at the University of Mysore, Department of Genetics and Genomics, with financial support from the TSSR and Aide à l’Enfance Tibétaine (AET), France. Tsewang extends her sincere gratitude to these organizations for their unwavering support throughout her educational journey.
Tsewang’s success can be attributed to her deep passion for genetics, coupled with relentless dedication, hard work, and a never-ending curiosity for learning. She also emphasized the importance of a supportive network of individuals who inspired and challenged her throughout her academic journey.
In a heartfelt expression of gratitude, Tsewang said, “I also want to express my deep appreciation to my hardworking parents, whose profound love and unwavering dedication have been a guiding light in my life. Their sacrifices and tireless efforts have not only opened doors to education but have also instilled in me the values of perseverance and determination.”
Tsewang also credited her mentor, Dr. Koushik, and guide, Prof. Ramachandra, along with the teachers of the Genetics Department at the University of Mysore, for their patience in addressing her doubts and their consistent support. She expressed profound gratitude to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), and the Indian government for providing Tibetan youth with the privilege of pursuing education, on par with Indian citizens.
Tsewang Tsamchoe’s journey from a Tibetan refugee to a recipient of three gold medals is a testament to the power of education, determination, and the unwavering support of the community.
