Dharamshala, 8th September: Dickyi Palmo, a Tibetan student was awarded the Late Muddumadappa Gold Medal for MA in Public Administration from the University of Mysore. Dickyi Palmo attended TCV Suja for her secondary and high school education and graduated from The Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education (DLIHE) in 2018 with a BA in English, Public Administration, Journalism, and Mass Communication. In 2020, she received her MA in Public Administration from the University of Mysore.
Dickyi Palmo expressed her feelings about receiving the award in an exclusive interview with Tibetanjournal. “I’m very happy and overwhelmed to receive this award. And also I’m proud of being the only Tibetan to receive this Gold Medal from my department(Public Administration),” she stated.
“I’ve completed my Masters and I want to do further studies like M.phil or Ph.D once this pandemic is over and admission opened. Till then I want to serve in Tibetan Community.” she added.
The most significant distinction she noted between a Tibetan and an Indian college is that in an Indian institution, you are responsible for everything, however, in a Tibetan college, the lecturers will aid you as much as feasible. She described the teachers at Dalai Lama College as her “parents.” In her opinion, attending an Indian college forced her to leave her ‘comfort zone.’
She mentioned in the interview that being a Tibetan among Indians made her study more because she didn’t want to disgrace the Tibetan name. That made her aspire to excel in her studies. “Unlike in school, where you study only to pass the exam, in college, you study the subjects you enjoy, which makes me happy,” she stated in the interview.
She expressed gratitude to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, TCV School, and CTA for providing her with the chance to study up to this point. She expressed her gratitude to her mother, her school teachers, and her friends for their unwavering support. She advises prospective students is to make the most of the freedom that comes with being a college student. Use this opportunity to study even harder, as no one in an Indian college will help you with your studies, you are solely responsible for all your academic responsibilities, she added. She also emphasizes the value of keeping good relationships with lecturers and classmates.
