Dharamshala, April 11: The final phase of voting for the Tibetan election begins on Sunday at 8:00 am for Sikyong and 45 members of the Tibetan Parliament in exile. Penpa Tsering and Aukatsang Kelsang Dorjee are the two candidates for Sikyong. During the first phase of elections, there were eight candidates for Sikyong in which Penpa Tsering secured the highest 24,488 votes and Aukatsang Kelsang Dorjee secured the second-highest 14,544 votes.
In an interview with the media Wangdu Tsering, the Chief Election Commissioner of the Tibetan Election Commission said “Good morning to all of you, even when we are in exile with the beneficent force of His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama we are able to successfully implement democracy. In this final phase of the election, I want to say Tashi Delek to all the voters. There are 83,079 voters on this final phase of the election.” He also mentioned that as a voter there are certain privileges as well as responsibilities. He also added that casting your vote is very important. He requested that voters cast their votes.
At the end of the interview, Wangdu Tsering la said “Whoever you are voting for, Honestly the state of affairs of our Leader and Judiciary is in the hands of voters, therefore, voters should consider this and do their best.”
“I am very happy to say that in around 26 countries the Tibetans in exile are franchising their votes… the total number of the voter is 83,079. We do have two kinds of elections one is for the Presidential election of the Central Tibetan Administration and the second one is Parliamentary. There are two nominees for President and 95 candidates for the 45 parliamentary seats. We are going to declare the results on May 14th,” said Wangdu Tsering, the Chief Election Commissioner of the Tibetan Election Commission, according to ANI.
The election is for the 3rd Sikyong and Members of the 17th TPiE.
