The Dalai Lama and PM Modi’s Office Were Top Targets of Chinese Spy Racket

According to new developments in the investigation of the large Chinese spy racket in India, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and PM Modi’s office were among their top targets. The ongoing probe into Chinese espionage racket has unfurled unexpected anti-nationals from different fields of work in India leading to the arrest of a few prominent faces.

Earlier this year, the Chinese espionage racket in India was busted with the arrest of a kingpin by the name of Charlie Peng in from Delhi. Following the arrest, in addition to busting the huge money laundering web orchestrated from China, the espionage racket was also busted. The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama based in Dharamshala, India was on the top radar.

61 year old Rajeev Sharma was arrested by the Special Cell unit of Delhi Police on September 14 following a tip from an Intelligence Agency. The police on interrogation has found that freelance journalist has been providing sensitive information to China in exchange of money. A Chinese agent has offered him $500 per article/information on His Holiness the Dalai Lama related issues.

Along the with that a Chinese woman Qin Shi and her Nepalese associate Sher Singh alias Raj Bohra were also arrested. The investigators have now found that Shi was asked to get details of top officials who were working in important ministries, including the Prime Minister’s office. They have also revealed that Shi was tasked with obtaining information on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s treatment, including details about his doctors apart from hospitals he visited for a check-up and the medicine he took!

Between 2010 and 2014, journalist Rajeev Sharma wrote a weekly column for Global Times, widely known as a mouthpiece of the Chinese government. Between 2016 and 2018, journalist Rajeev Sharma was in contact with Chinese agents by the names of Michael and Xou. He was tasked with providing information on Indian deployment on the Bhutan-Sikkim-China tri-junction, including Doklam, the pattern of India-Myanmar military co-operation, and the India-China boundary issue among other key issues.
