Tenzin Tsundue has finished his 127-day Himalayan trek.

Dharamshala, 25th December: Tenzin Tsundue, has finished an epic trip that took him through one Union territory and four Himalayan states to raise awareness about China’s 70-year occupation of Tibet and the security threat it poses to India. Tsundue, a Tibetan independence activist and writer, said that during the 127-day journey, which spanned 20,000 kilometers, he realized that the general public in the border regions was unaware of China’s expansionist policies.

Tsundue had departed Dharamshala on August 14 for an expedition called “Walking the Himalayas.” He began his journey in Leh and traveled through Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, largely trekking through villages, rural nomadic regions, and border areas before arriving in Dharamshala on Wednesday.

The 46-year-old activist stated that during the 127-day trek, which spanned 20,000 kilometers, he realized that the general public in border regions has little to no knowledge of China’s expansionist policies and ongoing actions across borders.

“They had been left shocked by the Galwan Valley Clash between the Indian Army and China’s People’s Liberation Army in 2020, which had left 20 Indian soldiers dead,” he stated.

The activist had brought a projector, sound system, and a bedsheet screen, which he used to show the video “Escape of the Dalai Lama” 100 times. He explained, “This film explains the Chinese occupation of Tibet and Chinese military pressure across the Himalayan borders.”

China’s expansion on the Indian border:

For years, China’s bafflingly fast construction of airfields atop man-made islands in the South China Sea, as well as its extraterritorial claims over that body of water, have dominated headlines, and the subject remains one of the most serious strategic and geopolitical issues of our day. Another, less well-publicized but similar strategic expansion is taking place in the western parts of the Chinese mainland, which has attracted far less attention but is no less dangerous. Beijing’s unprecedented blitz on airport and other military-related construction in this isolated region comes at a time when tensions with its neighbor, India, are at an all-time high.
