Keraa Fashion, the 2016 winner of Tibetan Entrepreneurship Development(TED) program of Department of Finance, Central Tibetan Administration on Friday opened its first branch at the heart of Tibetan exile, i.e., Gangkyi, Dharamsala. The ribbon cutting ceremony of the enterprise was carried out by Kalon Karma Yeshi at around 10 am that day.
The business is an entity created by three young Tibetans to promote and preserve Tibetan traditional clothing as well as modern Tibetan wears. Initially it was started in Tibetan Colony, Clement Town, Dehradun in the year 2015. With strong appreciation and support shown by the local Tibetans especially the Tibetan community in Clement Town, it thrived to carry out the combined business of selling fabrics, tailoring Tibetan clothing and selling ready made Tibetan wears.
According to the Co-founder, Mr. Jampa Tendar, who also received the pre-incubation training from TED program in 2016 explained at the opening ceremony that the training enabled the business to develop a proper business identity which further made way to get it legally registered with the regional government.
“This is a huge milestone achievement for Keraa Fashion as it helps us further strengthen our commitment towards promotion of traditional Tibetan clothing from the heart of Tibetan exile and it has been a huge boost to our morale in preserving and promoting Tibetan culture as the honourable Kalon Mr. Karma Yeshi graced the ribbon cutting ceremony.” said Co-Found Mr. Jampa Tendar on Friday.
The branch in Dharamsala is a similar set up where a combined showroom and a tailoring workshop functions in a similar manner selling ready made Tibetan traditional and modern cloths while at the same time selling fabrics and providing custom tailoring option, all in a single shop.
In addition to the Chief Guest Kalon Karma Yeshi, Secretary of Department of Finance, Acting Secretary of Department of Home cum the head of Youth Empowerment Support as well as Dharamsala Tibetan Settlement Officer, Mr. Dawa Rinchen were also present at the opening ceremony.
