Taiwan Openly Dares to Welcome a Visit by The Dalai Lama

In an open dare, Taiwan expressed its readiness to welcome another visit by the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Amid a tense political situation with China, the government of Taiwan said that it would welcome a visit by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The spiritual leader celebrated his 85th birthday on the 6th of this month.

The spokesperson of Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry in a recent statement told that the country will welcome a visit by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Spokeswoman Joanne Ou has said that they will handle the invitation under “relevant rules” if a request to visit is received for the visit. It is highly sensitive openly dare China especially with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, based in exile in India.

The Dalai Lama is “welcome to come to Taiwan again to propagate the Buddhist teachings,” spokeswoman Joanne Ou said, adding that an application by the Dalai Lama to visit would be handled “in accordance with the principle of mutual respect and at a time of convenience for both sides.”, reported the Radio Free Asia earlier this month.

The Asian country has been openly opposing every political pressure from mainland China and the second landslide victory of Presidential election for Tsai Ing Wen is a clear indication of public support towards the pro-democracy movement. His Holiness has never visited Taiwan since 2009 and a future will surely anger China.

In the birthday message from the spiritual leader, he expressed his hope to be able to visit Taiwan with improving political scenarios. “Whatever happens, I’ll remain with you in spirit.” His Holiness the Dalai Lama reaffirmed his support to the country which faces similar mistreatment Tibet faces from China.
