Supreme Court Directs Government To Do Way With The Single Entrance Test System on Friday. The Supreme court made this suggestion to the government owing to the enormous pressure students need to undertake to crack the single deciding test of their live to enter into a medical or engineering college in the country.
According to the report in the Times of India, the supreme court suggested that 40% weightage should be given to results of the Board exams and 60% for performance in the entrance exams while shortlisting candidates for admission to such courses, the court said. “It is wrong that the entire future of a student is decided by his/her performance in the entrance examination,” the court said, adding that “we cannot pass an order on the issue and it is for the government to regulate the system and frame the policy”.
The apex court asked the government to frame guidelines to do away with the single entrance test system that decides the future of a student.
However the CBSE said in contrary to taking heed to the apex court’s directions, aspiring doctors will get three chances to clear the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) on Friday, raising hopes of thousands of candidates who had failed in three earlier attempts and were ineligible to take the test again.
“NEET was launched last year after the Supreme Court threw out a clutch of petitions challenging the single, all-India test for entry to medical and dental colleges. In a statement late in the evening, the health ministry said NEET-2017 shall be counted as the first attempt, irrespective of the previous attempts in AIPMT/NEET.” said the report in Hindustan Times.
The question now is that will the CBSE frame new rules and regulations in the way they conduct the entrance exams for the medical and engineering colleges in India.
