Dharamshala, 10th October: The inaugural Standing Committee of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile welcomed new members today. According to Article 42 of the Tibetans in Exile Charter, a Standing Committee comprised of two Parliamentarians from each of the three traditional provinces and one Parliamentarian from each of the religious schools was formed and began the process of allocating members to various sections and responsibilities.
Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel presided over the first meeting of the Standing Committee, which included
- Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering,
- Parliamentarian Tenpa Yarphel,
- Parliamentarian Khenpo Kada Ngedup Sonam,
- Parliamentarian Geshe Lharampa Gowo Lobsang Phende,
- Parliamentarian Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen,
- Parliamentarian Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar,
- Parliamentarian Serta Tsultrim,
- Parliamentarian Phurpa Dorjee Gyaldhong,
- Parliamentarian Geshe Gangri, and
- Parliamentarian Choedak Gyatso.
Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel greeted and welcomed the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s first Standing Committee members at 9:00 a.m. in the Library cum Conference Hall. The speaker told that as the members of the standing committee are able to meet for the first time, it’s a source of pride and encouragement for them. He added that despite the day being Sunday, they have chosen to call the meeting in order to start the parliament session as soon as possible.
The committee’s working procedure, as well as relevant rules and regulations, were then explained by the Speaker. According to Clause VI of the Standing Committee’s rules and regulations under the Central Tibetan Administration’s Rules and Regulations, the newly appointed Standing Committee members were divided into three sections for a period of one year, from October 9, 2021, to October 8, 2022:
I. Gyundrel Deytsen (Finance) :
1. Parliamentarian Geshe Lharampa Gowo Lobsang Phende
2. Parliamentarian Geshe Gangri
II. Chabsi Deytsen (Political) :
1. Parliamentarian Serta Tsultrim
2. Parliamentarian Khenpo Kada Ngedup Sonam
3. Parliamentarian Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar
4. Parliamentarian Phurpa Dorjee Gyaldhong
5. Parliamentarian Choedak Gyatso
III. Zinkyong Tokship Deytsen (Administration):
1. Parliamentarian Tenpa Yarphel
2. Parliamentarian Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen
