The Special Task Force (STF), Kolkata Police has arrested the sixth accused in the low intensity blast in Bodhgaya at His Holiness the Dalai Lama’ camp at the beginning of this year from Hooghly’s Bandel railway station. The accused arrested by the police is being charged with involvement in the procurement of explosives used in the blast in January this year.
“A Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police Monday arrested a man from Hooghly’s Bandel railway station in connection with a low-intensity blast at Bodh Gaya, Bihar, in January this year.” said the report in the Indian Express earlier last week.
“Hazibulla (57) of Samsherganj in Murshidabad is the sixth person to be arrested in connection with the blast.” added the report the explained that the accused had helped in procuring explosives which were used by suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militants in Bodh Gaya within the tight security shield of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on January 19 this year.
Three bombs were planted in the vicinity out of which an IED, kept inside a flask near Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, exploded following which the two others kept at a gate of the temple and another near a monastery were recovered before explosion. The first blast was initially mistaken for a fire cracker, police launched a combing search of the entire campus in precaution. The two bombs planted were immediately taken to a remote place and diffused later.
The Bihar Police and officials of intelligence agencies informed that the bombs were planted to create panic among the tourists, and not do any damage. During the Buddhist spiritual leader’s stay in Bodh Gaya, thousands of devotees from around the world has flock to the holy place to attend his teachings, while many high profile personalities too have been visiting there for blessings.
