Sikyong Expresses Condolences on the Death of Former Himachal Chief Minister Raja Virbhadra Singh

Dharamshala, 10th July: The Central Tibetan Administration’s Sikyong Penpa Tsering expressed his sincere regret and condolences on the death of Shri Virbhadra Singh, former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. On July 8, the individual departments of the Central Tibetan Administration performed a prayer ceremony, and the offices were closed at midday as a symbol of respect and sadness for the departed. Virbhadra Singh,87, a six-time chief minister of the state, breathed his last at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla at 3.40 am on Thursday after a prolonged illness.

Sikyong wrote in an official condolence letter to Shmt Pratibha Singh, the late Shri Virbhadra Singh’s wife:

“It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of the late Shri Raja Virbhadra Singh. On behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people, I sent our deepest condolences to you, your family, and the people of Himachal Pradesh.”

“Through his dynamic leadership and decades of service to the nation and the state of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Virbhadra Singh Ji has left an indelible mark in the hearts and lives of many. Likewise, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people remain grateful for his support and generosity throughout the past decades.”

“Today, the Tibetan people mourn this colossal loss alongside your family and the people of Himachal Pradesh while honoring the legacy of Shri Virbhadra Singh Ji.”

“Once again my deepest condolences,” He continued.

The Dalai Lama expressed his condolences on the death of Virbhadra Singh saying he was personally grateful for the warm friendship he showed to him.

“Dedicating himself to the service of others, Virbhadra Singh led a long and meaningful life. I admired the way he listened to people’s needs with deep affection and compassion. I am personally grateful for the warm friendship he showed me over the many years we knew each other,” the Dalai Lama wrote to Singh’s wife, Pratibha Singh according to the republicworld.

“Historically, the people of the ancient princely state of Bushahr, to which ‘Raja Sahib’ belonged, have had close links with their western Tibetan neighbors. Shri Virbhadra Singh, our longest-serving Chief Minister, will be dearly missed here in Himachal Pradesh.” “With my prayers,” His Holiness finished his letter.
