Second Tibetan Death Due To COVID-19 in Majnu Ka Tilla, Delhi

A second death of a Tibetan due to the COVID-19 from Tibetan refugee colony in Delhi has been reported. Popularly known as Majnu Ka Tilla or MT has reported yet another Tibetan death on Thursday. There are presently four active cases of Coronavirus infection among Tibetans in the refugee colony as of today.

An elderly Tibetan refugee aged 82 passed away in hospital on Thursday after being admitted there on Tuesday. The deceased was initially admitted to the hospital on the complaint of difficulty in breathing. Following his death on Thursday, his test for the COVID-19 came out to be positive.

According to the sources, a critical case of contact with the deceased is another elderly male aged 83 has been identified and he has been taken to the hospital on Friday. In addition to that, a total of 5 people including family members who came into contact with the deceased have been kept under home quarantine.

A 63 year old Tibetan from Majnu Ka Till earlier passed away at a hospital at the beginning of this month. The first Tibetan infected with coronavirus in India had passed away in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh earlier this year after returning from United States.

The situation of Tibetans in the national capital is being seen as critical. Besides a handful number of COVID-19 positives cases among Tibetans in the region, all other cases of Tibetan infections in India have identified as having the common travel history to New Delhi. The local Tibetan authorities and health officials have informed of their efforts in carrying out active screening of their people as well as providing immunity boosters from Tibetan medicine.

There has been  a continued rise in the cases of coronavirus infection in India, till now more than 300K cases of infection have been identified and more than 8.8K have lost their lives. There are 36K confirmed cases in Ladakh with one eath. As for whole world, there are more than 7.4 million confirmed cases with more than 400K deaths.
