In a tragic report of a school bus accident, 30 lives have been claimed in the road tragedy that took place near the village of Gurchal on the Nurpur-Chamba highway which is just 100 km away from Dharamsala on Monday. Sadly from the 30 people dead in the accident, 27 of them are report to be school children!
“At least 30 persons, including 27 students, were killed as a school bus owned by a private school, Wazir Ram Singh Pathania, fell into a deep gorge near Malkwal area of Nurpur constituency in Himachal Pradesh on Monday.” said the report in the Times of India on Monday evening.
Himachal Pradesh transport minister Govind Singh Thakur has confirmed to the media that among the 30 people dead, 27 of them were school children, the 67 year old bus driver Madan Lal along with two lady teachers in the bus were also reported to have died from the accident.
“At least 13 seriously injured persons were rushed to a hospital in Pathankot where one of them succumbed to injuries, the condition of other injured persons was also critical.” quoted an official in the report that added that most the children were primary students below 10 years old.
While a probe into the matter has been ordered, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur announced an immediate relief of Rs 500,000 to the next of kin of each deceased, while many others including PM Modi expressed their deep sadness over the tragic accident in the Himalayan state of India.
