Dharamshala, 20th December: Mohan Bhagwat, the Chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), met Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama at his residence at Gaden Phodrang in McLeodganj, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra region on Monday and expressed India’s support for Tibet.
The RSS chairman is on a five-day tour in Kangra, where he met with 60 intellectuals yesterday, including Tibetan government-in-exile president Penpa Tsering and Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel. Indresh Kumar, a top RSS official, accompanied Bhagwat during his encounter with the Dalai Lama.
Tibetan officials conveyed their gratitude to the Indian government and people for their hospitality and support to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people during their meeting with RSS leaders.
‘It’s very natural that when Mohan Bhagwat is in Dharamshala, he will meet Dalai Lama’ Penpa Tsering told reporters after the encounter. He added that Bhagwat’s visit was prompted by the Dalai Lama’s decision to give in-person meetings beginning on December 15, the first of which was granted to Tsering, making this his second in-person meeting since the outbreak of the present pandemic.
Although the contents of the Dalai Lama’s chat with the RSS representatives were not revealed, Penpa Tsering felt the conversation was about general problems, saying, “they must have talked about the larger interest of humanity on major issues.”
According to Indresh Kumar, the Dalai Lama informed them that India is a paradigm of religious unity and that India should make it known to the rest of the world. RSS chief Bhagwat also underlined India’s earnest support for Tibet, he added.
