The online petition in one of the largest campaign websites, Change.org, seeking justice for the Tibetan man who was severely beaten by a group of local taxi drivers on a December night has gained momentum as people are pouring in their supports by signing the petition.
The petition started by a Tibetan named Kalsang is directed to the SP and DC of the region as well as the President of Central Tibetan Administration along with two others. It calls for the justice to be done to the innocent victim and the culprits be brought to justice.
After a week of starting the petition, it has been able to gather more than 1500 people both Tibetans and Indians to sign the campaign.
A group of around 12 taxi drivers reported beat a Tibetan official of CTA in the office compound on December 14 late night while he was going to fetch his wife. The group of drivers were allegedly drinking in the compound under the guide of the night’s darkness.
Kalsang writes in the petition, “From CCTV footage, the incident can be seen clearly. As of now, it has been more than 3 days, those responsible haven’t been punished other than filling an FIR. It would be easy to catch them by using Vehicle no. provided by the victim’s wife and footage from CCTV.”
Shrinivasan, a supporter of the campaign commented, “Tibet has always been close to my heart. When the Tibetans fled China in the late 1950’s along with His Holiness The Dalai Lama, India rightly offered the Tibetan people a home. The Tibetans and His Holiness The Dalai Lama have enriched our culture while at the same time embracing our values and our languages. This incident is a shame on our country. On behalf of those who did this crime I apologise to my dear Tibetan brethren. The law must take its course and justice must be done.”
