Only Dalai Lama Has the Right to Decide on His Reincarnation

The Chinese intentions to appoint their own candidate as the successor to the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama was slammed by aides of the spiritual leader. A close aide if His Holiness has recently spoken to the media where he has clarified that the issue of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation is personal right.

A senior official of the Chinese government has said at press briefing in Lhasa that the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama should be found within the jurisdiction of their government. Besides adding that the successor should be approved by China, the senior official went on to warn India not to interfere in this matter and recognize their authority or face detrimental bilateral ties.

However, according to the close aide of the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the issue of reincarnation is his personal right. At the same time, he said that His Holiness has even warned that any candidate chosen for political ends by anyone, including China, should not be recognized or accepted.

The close aide explained that there is no certainty that whether the institution of the Dalai Lama should continue or not after the 14th, the current Dalai Lama, he had announced in 2011 that he would decide at 90 whether or not he should have a successor. The official has even quoted that His Holiness keeps saying that the reincarnation will be decided by only himself.

“My reincarnation is to be decided by myself, nobody has the right to decide about that,” he often said in his remarks according to the close aide of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
