The former US president Barack Obama in a recent interview mentioned that the ideal world leader group chat members include His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Pope Francis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Manmohan Singh and Queen Elizabeth II. His Holiness and the former president have met each other on several occasions in the past and their friendship is well known.
Former President Barack Obama says his ideal hypothetical group chat of world leaders would include Pope Francis, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. While speaking in a short video clip for the Skimm about his book, A Promised Land, explained who are his ideal group chat of world leaders;
“The Dalai Lama Lama, I love that guy. Pope Francis, a genuinely good man. Angela Merkel, Former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh.” explained Barack Obama, adding that he would throw Queen Elizabeth because she has drier sense of humour than people think.
Obama while he was serving as the president met with the exile spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on several occasions despite strong criticism from China. The latest meeting between the duo was during the former president’s visit to India in 2017 in New Delhi. The spiritual leader explained about the meeting that it was very good meet an old trusted friend.
He has stressed out at the meeting, “You are not only a former US president but you are a former Nobel laureate, you are young and you can do a lot. We should fulfil our aspiration for world peace. Maybe my generation will not see the results, but your generation will definitely see the results.”
