Nancy Pelosi Elected to a Historic Second Term As the Speaker

The Representative from San Fransico, California, Nancy Pelosi on Thursday was elected to a historic second term as the speaker of the House. The historic victory for the two time House Minority Leader is in its very nature first in different perspectives.

Nancy Pelosi is also a very close friend of Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a staunch supporter of the Tibetan movement. The victory now brings her second in line to the presidency, after the vice president.

According to the report in the CNBC, Nancy Pelosi made history for the second time. This afternoon, the representative from San Francisco, California, was voted Speaker of the House of Representatives for the second time. The position puts her next in line to the presidency, after the vice president.

Nancy Pelosi who is now 78 years old remains the only woman to ever serve as Speaker of the House. She is also the first Californian, and the first Italian-American to lead a major party in Congress. As she is the only woman to have served as Speaker making her the highest-ranking female politician in American history.
