While the DYSA Mundgod FC faced the Gangtok FC in the final match of the Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial GCM Gold Cup this year on Tuesday at Byllakuppe Tibetan settlement, the DYSA FC emerged as the winner of the title after the exciting final match between the two came to a end with a final tally 2-0 goals.
Palsang, sporting the jersey no. 9 from the DYSA Mundgod FC gave the advantage to their team when he scored a tricky goal just at the seventeenth minute of the game. Though the score board did not change at end of the half time, a penalty shot awarded to Mundgod soon after the resumption of second half further affirmed their victory as the final score at the end of full time remain as 2-0.
According to the organisers, there were expectedly huge number of audience gathered at the ground where the match was being held. Besides, the live streaming of the match on Youtube was viewed by more than two thousand people. This is a clear sign of growing popularity of the game and the tournament among the Tibetan community.
The semi-finals were played on Monday where the first match was played between DYSA Mundgod and Cholsum FC and the second match between the Gangtok FC and Dhondupling FC. While the first match finished with a score of 1-0 in Mundgod’s victory, the second match was concluded with a convincing 3-0 victory for Gangtok FC.
The Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC) football tournament is the most prominent sports activity in Tibetan exile organised by the Tibetan National Sports Association in remembering the late mother of the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The Tibetan National Football team is also set to participate in the CONIFA World Cup scheduled to take place in London this June.
