Monday Motivation: Dalai Lama Guide on Negative Emotions

In the short video of an interaction with the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a follower is seen asking for a guide on dealing with the negative emotions. The lady seeking an audience with the Tibetan spiritual leader, she asks what is the simplest method to get rid of negative thoughts?

As per the video embedded along with this post, the lady asks, “If I may ask, what do you do when you have some negative thoughts in your head. What is the simplest thing one can do to rid oneself of those negative thoughts?”

His Holiness the Dalai Lama warmly replies, “Negative emotions are mainly related to two things. One, self centered attitude. I… My… like that. Then another sort of factor is we accept reality as it appears. In Anatman (Selflessness) theory and Shunyata (Emptiness) theory, nothing exists as it appears. So, since all negative emotions are very much based on appearances, once you realize nothing exists as it appears, that is the wisdom side, prajna side; then the upaya side or altruisim is the antidote to the self centered attitude.”

“So self-centeredness is one factor, then the belief, grasping at things as they appear, these two things are the basis of negative destructive emotions.” His Holiness the Dalai Lama added according to the video.

Hope this short clip of the spiritual encounter with His Holiness the Dalai Lama will serve as a kick start to your Monday motivation and begin a wonderful week ahead. Watch the video clip posted below to witness the wisdom and be inspired!
