Monastery Area in MT Sealed As a Woman Tests COVID-19 Positive

In a discovery during delivery, an Indian woman tested positive for COVID-19 and her contact points to Majnu Ka Tilla or MT. The woman who was shifted to a near by hospital following complications during her delivery and she tested Coronavirus positive there. As a result, the parts of the Tibetan colony is now sealed as a precaution.

The Indian lady who tested positive to the COVID-19 at a hospital in Delhi recently moved to a live in a property belonging to the Ngagpa Monastery in Tibetan Colony popularly known as Majnu Ka Tilla (MT). She was attended by the Tibetan nurses from the colony while delivery her child.

“On Thursday, the tests result of the Indian woman confirmed her infection to the virus. Days ago on May 21, the woman who earlier lived in the nearby Punjabi Basti came to live with her fellow-villagers at a quarter belonging to the Ngagpa monastery. She was pregnant and suffered child-delivery related complications. She was subsequently helped by Tibetan nurses from the Tibetan exile government (CTA) clinic and was later admitted to a nearby hospital.” said the report by Phayul.

The report also quoted the Tibetan Settlement Officer, Mr. Phuntsok Topgyal posted there. Mr. Topgyal has informed as soon as they came to know about the case on Thursday, they have placed four Tibetan nurses in quarantine and sealed the Ngagpa monastery area in consultation with Indian MCD authorities. The MCD authorities have agreed to come and sanitize the area.

The Tibetan Colony or commonly called as MT is a very popular destination in the national capital as it offers varieties of unique Tibetan food as well as affordable fashion wears. Since the beginning of nationwide lock down in India, the colony entered into a complete closure. Since the residents are entirely dependent on business, the lock down has hit them very hard.

While there is a continues rise in the cases of coronavirus infection in India, the national capital is one of the worst hit part. There are more than 17K confirmed cases in New Delhi with almost 400 deaths. As for India, there are more than 182K confirmed cases with more than 5K deaths.
