The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama while giving a short teaching in Dharamshala, advised the Tibetans to maintain the crucial unity of Tibetan people as a sacred pledged. His Holiness called upon the Tibetans to give up of the outdated attitude of sectarian discrimination and maintain the bond of unity that shapes the people.
“In the past in Tibet, there were instances when monasteries fought each other based on sectarian divisions. However, now we are in the 21st century. Such sectarian violence and attitude is outdated and backward. The same goes for blind loyalty based on regionalism and provinces. The bond of unity that has shaped the Tibetan people for centuries is of crucial importance. We should maintain it as a sacred pledge,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama advised to the thousands of Tibetans gathered at his teaching on Friday morning according to the official website of Central Tibetan Administration.
This call for unity among the Tibetan people came from a derivation of His Holiness’s message against the dominant problems in the world where people resort to violence on each other over destructive emotions leading to discrimination. The Tibetan spiritual leader also expressed his concerns over the rising violence across the world such as the Shia vs Sunni clashes in the Middle East and the Buddhist vs Muslims in Myanmar, advising that religion should be taken as medicine where there is no thing as the best religion just as different patients need different medicines, so is the religion!
His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s short teaching on the Jataka Tales as part of the annual Chotrul Monlam prayer festival at Tsuglakhang, Mcleod Ganj was attended by over a thousand devotees comprising of local Tibetans, devotees from Lahaul Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh as well as several recently-arrived Tibetans from Tibet according to the report.
