Following the controversial statements remarks on exiled Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Ladakhi Buddhists slammed Phunchok Stobdan. The condemnations stated that the indecent and disrespectful remark against His Holiness has deeply hurt the sentiments of Ladakhi Buddhists.
During a recent debate on Aaj Tak, a national television news channel in India, Mr. Stobdan accused that His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his exile Tibetan administration is not speaking up on the border dispute between India and China. He rudely remarked that if His Holiness is not aligned with China, he should clarify that the disputed regions belong to India, as a representative of Tibet, instead of carrying out teachings in Dharamshala.
Soon after his remarks on the national television channel, Buddhists from Ladakh immediately condemn the former Indian diplomat. Ladakh Buddhist Association today issued a press release strongly condemning Mr. Stobdan’s statement. The association slammed that such indecency and disrespect toward their spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama is unacceptable. It further stated that Stobdan made a mockery of Buddhist religion in general and the people in particular. It further condemned his glorification of war in the region, endangering hard gained diplomacy through all the sacrifices made by their people.
Another press release by Thiksey and Diskit Monastery declared that that the statement is highly objectionable. It explained that His Holiness is not only the epitome of peace and ambassador of humanity, but also the most respected spiritual of hundreds of thousands of Buddhists around the world. The head Lama of the monastery demanded Mr. Stobdan to give an unconditional apology.
