The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the torch bearer of world peace and a Nobel Peace laureate graced the first convocation of the Central University of Jammu where he applauded the spirit of secular values embraced by the state. His Holiness told that the state of Jammu & Kashmir presents the true harmony of India.
“Jammu and Kashmir is a state in which Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians live in complete harmony. This state presents the true harmony of India,” His Holiness the told at the inaugural address of the convocation of the varsity on Sunday.
The spiritual leader while calling for a peaceful 21st century by embracing dialogue to resolve all differences no matter how complicated the situations are. His Holiness also explained that violence will lead to counter violence and it leads to a cycle and called at resolving all issues through dialogue.
“India’s ancient knowledge is very relevant in today’s world to achieve a peaceful 21st century. The 21st century must be a century of peace and India can play a major role to achieve this goal,” His Holiness added, “No matter how sincere the motivation (for violence) is and once there is involvement of military forces, it will have unpredictable consequences,”
His Holiness the Dalai Lama also explained that the ancient Indian values are very much relevant to today’s world according to his discussions scholars from around the world and called for the education system to focus more on the moral values.
“I think religious harmony is really marvellous in the whole of India and it is the only country where people of different religions live together which is something very unique in today’s world,” His Holiness added.
“Modern knowledge has given us physical comfort but ancient Indian knowledge has the power to provide inner comfort and peace. You can combine the two. Ancient Indian knowledge is very relevant in today’s world,”
