Ireland will be opening its first Tibetan Buddhist temple in the summer of 2019 according to the report in the Irish Times. The temple based on traditional Tibetan temple structures, Dzogchen Beara Buddhist Meditation Centre, which began the plan since 2008 is aiming to make the place into a centre of peace and happiness.
“This structure is Ireland’s first Tibetan Buddhist Temple. At a total cost of about €3.5 million the Temple Project, in such a rural location, is unique in its ambition.” said the report in the Irish Times which reported the developers have already gathered €1.8 million and believes the rest will be also arrive very soon.
The temple will measure a total of 14 1/2 meters in height, with the ground floor hall capable of hosting 300 people for retreats, meditations, and conferences. Being located at a scenic remote area, the bright and colourful Tibetan style temple hopes to meet for the growing mainstream interest from the region at meditation and mindfulness practices which have their roots in Buddhism.
The temple will open its doors to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike to listen to various Buddhist teachings which will take place place at the Temple.
“The teachings need a place where people can come to hear them. This will be a living lineage in that what’s learned here can be passed on. A temple needs to be celestial or palatial, it needs to produce that wow reaction for those who see it first.” Temple project manager Leon Rossiter explains.
