The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama told that it is very important to introduce education of heart and mind based on secular thoughts while speaking to thousands of students at Bodh Gaya on Thursday. His Holiness stressed that the Indian secular concepts are very much relevant to be implemented in the today’s world.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama while giving a public talk at the Kalachakara gound in Bodh Gaya to thousands of students and teachers from Bihar, His Holiness emphasized the need for incorporation of principles such as compassion, respect and kindness in every prospect of our life.
“In every field of our activity, we need principles such as compassion, respect for others, kindness, taking responsibility. Now the time has come we have to think seriously how to introduce education of heart and mind, based on secular thoughts, particularly Indian secular concept. I think it is very relevant to today’s world.” told the Tibetan spiritual leader on according to the official website of Central Tibetan Administration on Thursday.
His Holiness stressed that it is now time that we develop a system that incorporates both the mind and heart which would be based on the workings of mind and emotions through reason and analysis rather than mere faithful beliefs.
“Modern education is very sound, but it seems to be oriented on materialistic values; not enough attention is given to the development of the person as a whole, and to encouraging a secular sense of values and basic warmheartedness,” His Holiness added to the gathering of Indian students and teachers.
The public talk on Education for Universal Ethics in Schools and Colleges to students from private and government schools at the Kalachakra Maidan was organized by groups including the Alice Project.
