The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama will now be giving only group audiences according to the report in The Tribune on Saturday. Following a meeting of the responsible authorities on Friday at the residence of His Holiness, the decision was taken as an outcome of the meeting.
The decision to change the process granting audience by His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been taken in consideration of his advanced age and health. The Tibetan spiritual leader turns 84 this July and he has always been swamped by requests for teachings and talks all over the world.
“Norms for meeting the Dalai Lama at his residence in McLeodganj would be changed. A decision to this affect was taken at a high level meeting held today keeping in view the age and health of the Dalai Lama. The meeting was attended, among others, by former PM of Tibetan government in exile and close aide of the Dalai Lama Samdhong Rinpoche and various secretaries of the office of the Tibetan spiritual head.” said the report by The Tribune.
Till now His Holiness personally greets each and every member of people arrived for audience at his residence in Dharamshala and were allowed to take pictures with him. While every person cleared for audience from the security at His Holiness’s office and the Himachal Police were able to meeting him one by one, it is now set to change.
The report says that only groups of people will be allowed for audience. The group will be seated in a hall as per schedule and His Holiness will arrive for audience where he will give a short talk. “The personal touch with the Dalai Lama and the photos clicked with him would be curtailed. However, limited personal one to one audiences as deemed fit by the mission of the Dalai Lama would be allowed.” the report added.
