MS Dhoni features in an advertisement of the VIVO IPL 2021 where he dons a look of a monk and people are calling him Thalai Lama! This look of the sporting icon has come as a surprise to the fans and it instantly connected to the spiritual leader.

MS Dhoni is one of the most celebrated sporting icons of the country and he is known for being the best ever captain the national team has ever seen. With the Indian Premier League set to begin from next month, while he will be leading the Chennai Super Kings, he is the lead endorsement of the title campaigners of the league.

One of the particular ads features him in the avatar of a monk. Fans and personalities have connected his look to the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Thalai Lama is a mixture of two terms, Thala and Dalai Lama. Fans from the home his team, Chennai called him thala which means head or leader in Tamil, with the avatar in the promotional video, a monk, fans have given him a new name, Thalai Lama!

The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama lives in India as well. The spiritual leader sought refuge for him and his people in 1959 when China forcefully invaded Tibet.
