Indian-American attorney to replace Aftab Pureval as Hamilton clerk of courts

Dharamshala, 8th January: As the Hamilton County clerk of courts, Indian-American attorney Pavan Parikh will take over for Indian-Tibetan Cincinnati city mayor-elect Aftab Pureval. Pureval is also the first member of the community to be elected as the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, in the United States. Meanwhile, Pureval, a 38-year-old Democrat who is the son of a Tibetan mother and an Indian father, was elected mayor of Cincinnati in November 2021, becoming the city’s first Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) mayor.

Pureval, the city’s first Democrat elected mayor in more than a century, has committed to restructure the city’s economy so that prosperity is shared equally throughout the city. According to a statement on his website, he will also seek to reform the police department and invest in public safety so that every neighborhood is safe, as well as develop more affordable housing and improve public transportation.

As clerk, he prioritized access to justice by establishing a support center to provide legal materials to persons who are representing themselves in court, allowing more people to use the courts. He implemented modern and professional modifications to the clerk’s office during his tenure. Pureval was born and reared in Southwest Ohio and attended Ohio State University. Whitney, his wife, is a doctor who has assisted in the treatment of Covid patients.
