India is threatened by China’s huge military presence in Tibet.

Dharamshala, 11th November: China has created a massive build-up in Tibet, To avoid a repeat of the 1962 conflict, the Indian Government told the Army that it requires wider highways to transport heavy vehicles up to the India-China boundary. According to the Centre, the Army must be prepared for any situation and cannot be caught off guard, as happened in 1962. China has done the same thing to Tibet before occupying it in 1959. They even hired local Tibetans to make the roads by paying in silver coins. Obviously, in hindsight, it was a trick to mobilize the People’s liberation army inside Tibet.

Since 1959, a village in an area under China’s ‘adverse occupation’ has been unable to do much:

According to DeccanHerald, The Indian security establishment said that the simmering disagreement over China’s construction of a new town on the disputed border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district has been under Beijing’s occupation since 1959, on Tuesday.

The truth remains, however, that the massive 100-home community on the banks of the Tsari Chu River is on Indian territory, and its development last year was in violation of Article VII of the bilateral accords between the two countries from 2005.

Over the last few years, China has constructed as many as 628 ‘xiaokang’ model border defense villages along the 3,488-kilometer Line of Actual Control (LAC), which runs from eastern Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.

However, there is the significant worry that China is asserting a claim to disputed territories by continuing to settle people in border areas who are provided with all services and generous subsidies. Furthermore, during times of conflict, these “dual-use” settlements might serve as “extended soldier cantonments.”
