In A Bold Move Against China, India Bans 59 Chinese Apps

In a bold move against China, India bans 59 prominent Chinese Apps in a move on Monday. Leading the list by popular Apps such as Tik Tok and WeChat, almost 60 Chinese Apps have been banned due to security reasons. The Chinese government on Tuesday reacted that the move is discriminatory in nature.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT issued a statement on Monday reporting the receipt of many complaints including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorised manner to servers outside India. It stated these apps ultimately threatens the sovereignty and integrity of India at large.

“The compilation of the data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,” said the statement. “There have been raging concerns on aspects relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indians. It has been noted recently that such concerns also pose a threat to sovereignty and security of our country.”

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, part of the MHA, has sent an “exhaustive recommendation for blocking the malicious apps,” the press release said. The popular Apps in the list includes the likes of TikTok, UC Browser, WeChat, Shareit, Club Factory and CamScanner to name a few.

India is facing prominent threats along its border with Tibet from Chinese troops, repetitively intruding into their territories. In the latest skirmish along the borders, 20 Indian soldiers were killed while facing Chinese soldiers along the border in the Galwan region in Ladakh. The ban inclines with the rising anti-China sentiment among Indian nationals.
