The iconic shop of the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s friend in Dharamshala to shut soon. McLeod Ganj known for hosting the spiritual leader has a well known store iconic in its own way, Nowrojee General store, will be closed next month. The store is a prominent identity of the hill town popular as a tourist destination.
Nowrojee and Sons general store that has run for more than 160 years is one of the oldest shops of Himachal Pradesh. The iconic store at the main spot of McLeod Ganj in Dharamshala has been serving as a store cum residence for the family. However, the property has now been sold and the family will be closing the store from September.
McLeod Ganj is today known across the world as the temporal residence of exiled Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The Parsi family is known to have suggested the spiritual leader to move to McLeod Ganj when he arrived into exile 60 years ago. Nauzar Nowrojee, father of the currently Nowrojees; Kurush and Parvez Nowrojee, was close friend of His Holiness until he passed away in 2002.
Dharamshala has now become the base of exile Tibetan administration and the exile residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. People from across the world visit the place on various trips such as tourism, adventure, education as well as various Tibet related programs. Teachings from the spiritual leader attract thousands of followers to the remote corner at the foot of Himalayas.
