In a recent announcement, the office of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has declared the cancellation of two scheduled visits, citing health concerns and the need for a full recovery from a recent bout of the flu. His personal physicians have strongly advised against any travel that could strain his health at this time.
The canceled visits include a planned trip to Sikkim in November 2023 and a subsequent visit to South India, specifically Bylakuppe and Hunsur, scheduled in the second half of November to mid-December 2023. While these cancellations come as a disappointment to many, the health and well-being of His Holiness remain the utmost priority.
“In view of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s recent bout of the flu, his personal physicians have strongly advised that any travel will be taxing on His Holiness and more importantly hamper his full recovery. We have, therefore, after careful consideration, decided not to visit Sikkim in the month of November 2023 and to also cancel His Holiness’ planned visit to South India (Bylakuppe and Hunsur) scheduled in the second half of November to mid-December 2023.” read the official notice from the office.
The notice further added that “There is no change to His Holiness’ planned visit to Bodhgaya starting in the second half of December 2023.
Despite these cancellations, there is no change in His Holiness’ plans to visit Bodhgaya, scheduled to commence in the second half of December 2023. This visit holds immense significance for Buddhists and followers worldwide, as it is a site of deep spiritual importance.
The announcement has garnered expressions of support and well-wishes from around the world, with individuals and organizations expressing their understanding of the need for His Holiness to prioritize his health. It is a reminder of the profound respect and admiration held for the spiritual leader, who has been a symbol of peace, compassion, and wisdom for millions.
