The highest weekly surge in COVID-19 cases has been reported among Tibetans from India. According to the latest weekly update from Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala, 113 COVID-19 positive cases has been reported from Tibetan settlements across India. This can be seen as a reflection of overall surge in infections from India.
Dr. Tsamchoe during the weekly press briefing on Thursday updated that there has been 113 total identified cases of Coronavirus infections among Tibetans in India. This weekly surge is the highest ever rise in the cases among Tibetans in exile. The highest number of infections have been reported from Mundgod Tibetan settlement and Ladakh.
She informed that the 113 cases of infections comprised of 4 from Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement, 1 from Bangalore, 31 from Mundgod Tibetan settlement, 60 from Ladakh Tibetan community, 3 from Bandhara Tibetan settlement, 1 from Tso Pema, 11 from Gangtok Tibetan community and 2 from Delhi Tibetan community.
Now there is a total tally of 260 cases of Coronavirus infections in Tibetans from India, Nepal and Bhutan. Current number of active cases stands at 152 and the total number of deaths is 6. Central Tibetan Administration is continuously advising its community on the importance of following quarantine norms of local administrations.
The host country India too has not been faring well in this matter as well. With record cases of infections reporting daily, it is now topping the highest number daily cases in the world. There are more than 4.5 million cases in India alone while the global tally stands at 28.2 million cases of Coronavirus infections.
