Dharamshala, 20th January: Following an episode of Joe Rogan’s popular podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” 270 doctors, nurses, scientists, and educators signed an open letter urging Spotify to take steps to prevent the spread of misinformation on its platform.
Rogan recently interviewed Robert Malone, a medical expert who said that US residents were “hypnotized” into wearing masks and getting COVID-19 vaccines due to a concept he dubbed “mass formation psychosis.” Rogan just struck an estimated $100 million exclusivity agreement with Spotify in 2020.
According to psychology specialists, Malone’s statements are unsupported by research, and the term “mass formation psychosis” does not appear in the American Psychological Association’s Dictionary of Psychology.
According to the open letter, Spotify’s decision to let “The Joe Rogan Experience” run Malone’s assertions unchecked can “destroy public trust in scientific research and raise doubt in the integrity of data-driven counsel supplied by medical professionals.” The letter was initially revealed by Rolling Stone.
“This is not only a scientific or medical concern; it is a sociological issue of devastating proportions and Spotify is responsible for allowing this activity to thrive on its platform,” the letter states.
Rogan’s interview with Malone has already been pulled from YouTube, and Twitter banned Malone’s account earlier this month for violating the platform’s rules on spreading COVID-19 misinformation.
According to The Atlantic, Malone wrote in the 1980s on the advantages of using RNA or DNA to build a new form of vaccine. Scientists used his findings to develop mRNA vaccines, such as the COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna.
Vaccination greatly reduces fatalities and hospitalizations from COVID-19, according to real-world evidence from the United States, England, and South Africa.
Malone has appeared on conservative talk shows with Tucker Carlson and Glenn Beck in recent years, falsely alleging that mRNA vaccine, such as Pfizer’s and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine, exacerbate coronavirus illnesses.
Rogan has already spread false information regarding COVID-19, including statements that young people should forgo vaccinations. The former “Fear Factor” host and UFC analyst apologized for repeating a bogus story that left-wing protestors in Oregon started a forest fire.
Due to Rogan’s vast reach, some Spotify workers previously told Insider that the firm has taken a hands-off approach to him. “The Joe Rogan Experience” was Spotify’s most popular podcast in 2021, according to the company. According to Bloomberg, Spotify now hosts more than 3 million podcasts, up from only a few hundred thousand just a few years ago.
