Tsering Choetso is the first Tibetology PhD candidate from Chamdo Tibet at the Columbia University according to reports. The young Tibetan lady has received the PhD enrollment to the prestigious Columbia University, United States and the opportunity has been awarded by the government on her meritorious achievement.
The 27 year old PhD candidate hails from Chamdo region of Tibet who is presently teaching Tibetan Culture at the Tibet University in Lhasa. Tsering started her pursuit to study Tibetology from the year 2007 and she has been awarded for excellent achievement in history of various countries in this period.
According to the report in Tibetan net, Tsering Choetso studied for three years in Central China Normal University following which she started teaching at the Lhasa University. She has gone back to the Central University to pursue her passion to study about Tibet. Now she will be joining the Columbia University in United States.
The report explained that Tsering’s parents educated her so that she would have a bright future specifically mentioning that her parents wanted her to pursue a field in either engineering or management, conforming to the scope of employ-ability today. However, Ms. Choetso believed that being a Tibetan, she needed to clearly and properly understand about Tibet and its people. She is also quoted to have said that it vitally essential for Tibetans to explore and understand the history of Tibet in depth.
