FIFA Launches Women’s Football Campaign In Restricted Tibet

Fifa launches the women’s football campaign in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet according to the report in the sports channel Sports Pro on Monday. The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) launched its campaign, Live Your Goals to develop women’s football in its member associations in Tibet.

“Fifa has launched its women’s soccer development initiative Live Your Goals campaign in Tibet. Soccer’s global governing body took the campaign to Lhasa, where the first activities to begin the launch featured futsal games and competitions designed to get girls engaged in soccer.” said the report in Sports Pro.

FIFA’s “LIVE YOUR GOALS” campaign was launched at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011, and since then it has evolved into one of FIFA’s most recognised initiatives in women’s football. Following a pilot phase in 2012-2013, FIFA would like to make “LIVE YOUR GOALS” available to member associations, as part of its support for women’s football development as well as to ensure that the campaign has a worldwide impact.

This FIFA campaign will now witness new soccer campuses created in 51 schools across Tibet’s capital city, covering primary, middle and high schools. While Tibet is one of the most restricted places in the world due to Chinese control, such a development is an encouragement and a hope that it would further open to the outside world, bringing law and order, basic human rights to the Tibetan people.

Tibet is not at all easy to access for the outside world due extremely sensitive censorship policies by China. Earlier this year, a rights group ranked Tibet second to Syria in terms of Human Rights violations while another ranked Tibet even more restricted to access than that of North Korea!
