Following the arrest of a Chinese spy in New Delhi, concerns over His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s security are raised. The Chief Minister of the host state Himachal Pradesh has informed the media that the spiritual leader’s security is an important matter of the state and there are no compromise or relaxation in that matter.
“His holiness Dalai Lama’s security is an important issue for the state government. Even already necessary protocols in Dalai Lama’s security have been put in place. Whatever instructions come from the central government will be strictly enforced. The police was already on alert,” Himachal Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur said in a press briefing on Tuesday.
A person of Chinese national involved in a multi-crore hawala racket was arrested by the IT Department in New Delhi recently. The same is found to have been spying on Tibetan spiritual His Holiness the Dalai Lama and have made trips to Dharamshala too. It has drawn concerns from the community in exile about their spiritual leader’s safety.
The CM has told that the centre has informed the state about the arrest of the spy but only basic information has been made available to them. He added that more details have been sought from the Centre about the activities of the person arrested in Delhi, and also if he had visited Dharamshala.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama is protected by two levels of security. A personal security unit is complemented by a unit of the Himachal Police headed by an officer of the Deputy Superintendent of Police to guard him. China trains and dispatches their agents to India with a mission to crack into the inner circles of the spiritual leader.
