The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama among the invitees to the inaugural ceremony of rebuilding Ram Temple. His Holiness was among the list of important spiritual leaders to grace the ceremony held in Ayodhya on Wednesday. However, current situations has not allowed the 85 year old spiritual leader to travel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out the foundation stone laying ceremony for in a grand program to inaugurate rebuilding Ram Temple at Ayodhya on Wednesday. Despite restrictive measures, important personalities from different spiritual traditions attended the grand ceremony. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerath Kshetra Trust reportedly approached His Holiness the Dalai Lama with an invition.
However, the Tribune reports that due to current situations and advanced age of the spiritual leader has not allowed for his travel. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has never stepped out of his residence since the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Following the beginning of the outbreak in China, the health issue has gripped the world worse that any pandemic ever.
Rama, considered an incarnation of god Vishnu, is a widely worshiped Hindu deity. According to the ancient Indian epic, Ramayana, Rama was born in Ayodhya. This became known as Ram Janmabhoomi or Ram’s birthplace. In the 15th century, the Mughals constructed a mosque, the Babri Masjid, on Ram Janmabhoomi. Hindus believe that the mosque was built after razing a Hindu temple. Since then it has been a site of much controversy and violent clashes are well known.
It was only after the 2019 Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya dispute that it was decided the disputed land be handed over to a trust formed by the Government. The trust formed was Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra. On 5 February 2020, it was announced in the parliament that the Second Modi ministry had accepted a scheme to construct the temple.
