Dalai Lama Leaves for One Day Visit to Jammu & Kashmir

The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama left from his exile residence in Dharamshala for a one day visit to Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday morning. His Holiness is scheduled to address the first convocation ceremony of the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) on Sunday, March 18.

“Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama left Dharamshala for a one-day visit to Jammu & Kashmir. On 18 March, His Holiness will address the first convocation of the Central University of Jammu (CUJ).” said the report in the official website of Central Tibetan Administration.

Central University of Jammu, Registrar Ravi Kumar informed that His Holiness the Dalai Lama would be the chief guest at the convocation, during which PhD degrees, PG degrees, gold medals and merit certificates would be conferred on the candidates who had successfully completed their study programmes till the year 2017.

Union minister Jitendra Singh and former chief of Army staff N C Vij are also reported to attend the convocation ceremony where they will be receiving degrees of doctor of philosophy, honoris causa, from Central University of Jammu.

The CUJ officials believes that the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace laureate at the first ever convocation ceremony of the University would help in bringing the much needed peace and stability in the state.

The University officials “The decision of inviting His Holiness Dalai Lama to the convocation has been taken in view of the prevailing instability in J&K. He has been awarded with the Noble Prize for peace and there is a dire need for peace and stability in the state,” Prof Ashok Aima, CUJ Vice Chancellor informed.
